London

After Scotland, we hitched back to London in preparation to leave for the continent, arriving on the 15th of September.

We only intended to spend one night in London, we booked into the Crystal Palace camping ground. Well , this was probably the worst night we spent on the entire trip.

It was a night of torrential rain, and the area where we had pitched our tent began to flood.

The higher ground was all occupied, and the only dry place in the entire camp were the toilets in the amenities block.

We, and numerous other people, tried to get some sleep lying on the cement floor. It was impossible to sleep - we were soaked, the floor was hard, the lights were on, and there was a constant stream of people passing, including those wanting the use the toilets - and there was the smell.

The next morning, caught a bus to Elephant and Castle and got left in truck for about 30 miles, then a lift in a Mercedes with German University Professor associated with research into noise tolerance levels of humans in industry. We finally arrived in Folkstone to catch the ferry to Calais.
