My recollection of London at the time is poor, although I vividly remember things like the Elephant & Castle roundabout which we had to cycle through to get just about anywhere.

Our local corner shop
There were very few restaurants and those that existed were too expensive for our budget so we ate at home most of the time. The only affordable restaurants were Indian, however as they mainly catered for the Indian population, the food was so hot that you had to get it into you mouth without touching you lips, usually eating 1-2 pots of yogurt each afterwards - they sold it in the restaurant.

The only places that had affordable food were pubs, but we weren’t really into that scene.

The city was much the same as it is now, except there was many fewer tourists that there is now, and no London Eye.

The days were pretty warm (for London) and Hyde Park was a cool haven within the city - although many city workers would roll up their sleeves and take off their shoes to lie in the sun.

Speaker's Corner was always packed on Sundays with the typical eccentric speakers and usually equally eccentric listeners.
